Celebrities and BJJ

Every once in a while, I'll be watching t.v. or a movie, and someone will say, "Hey, did you know he trains BJJ?" I find it fascinating to learn about people that are famous and accomplished, and have also incorporated Jiu Jitsu into their lives. It is the convergence of BJJ and pop-culture. With that in mind, I thought it might be fun to compile a list of celebrities that train Jiu Jitsu.

I will inevitably leave someone of the list, so if I have overlooked anyone, apologies in advance.

Ed O'Neil

Ed O'Neil is a well accomplished actor. Best known for his role as Al Bundy in the television series Married...with Children and as Jay Pritchett on Modern Family . Ed has been training BJJ for over 20 years. Ed received his black belt in 2007.

Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain is a well-known and accomplished chef. He has hosted a number of travel and culinary television shows, including No Reservations, and Parts Unkown.

Paul Walker

Paul Walker was a well known actor and star of the "Fast and Furious" movie franchise. Paul was an avid fan of BJJ and MMA. Prior to his untimely passing, Paul had earned his Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Paul was awarded his Black belt posthumously by master Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller.

Maynard James Keenan

A man of many talents. As front man for the band Tool, Maynard finds time to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and is a purple belt (at the time of this article).

Kelly Slater

Kelly Slater is an 11-time World Surfing champion, and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt.

Vince Vaughn

Best known for his comedic films, Vince Vaughn started training BJJ in 2016, and earned his blue belt in 2018 from the Gracie University.

A well-known actor that rose to fame on That '70s Show, Ashton Kutcher trains under well-known master Rigan Machado.

"Let me tell you somthin..." Jim Carrey is not only an acomplished actor, but rumor has it that he is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt.
